CONSERVATIVES ANNOUNCE NEW PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IN FETCHAM
Surrey County Council plans to install a new signalled pedestrian "Puffin" crossing in The Street, Fetcham near to Fetcham Village Infants School. The existing footway will be widened and resurfaced, whilst improvements are planned to the existing signs and street lighting near to the school. The idea is to provide a safe route between Fetcham Village Infants School and Oakfield Junior School.
Fetcham Councillor Tim Hall and Leader of Mole Valley District Council said:-
"This is a major road safety success in Fetcham Village. The crossing point will provide a safe route between the two village schools. I am on the governing board for Fetcham Village Infants and Councillor Carolyn Corden (Fetcham East) is a School Governor at Oakfield Junior. Both of us have been working for some years to get this project started, as part of the Safe Routes to School Initiative. Wed particularly like to thank all those parents, teachers and community representatives who have worked so hard for a number of years to make this and other road safety projects around Fetcham Schools successful as part of the Fetcham Safe Routes to School Group."
Work on the project will begin on the 26th February 2008 and is expected to take up to six weeks. The work will take place on Monday to Friday between 9.30 and 4.30 p.m. Surrey County Council says that although the construction work may mean closing the road for short periods of time, there should not be too much disruption for pedestrians and motorists. Advance warning signs will be put up on all approaches.
