MORE MONEY TO HEAT VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS

Mole Valley District Council has been working with other authorities and the Greater London Energy Efficiency Network to improve heating and insulation in households this winter.

The upshot of this work has been a successful bid for Government funding, which will be used to fund decent heating systems for private sector vulnerable households. Vulnerable households are essentially where the occupants are elderly or receiving benefits of some kind.

The kind of work that can be funded includes:

  • New gas, oil-fired or wood burning central heating;
  • Extending existing heating systems;
  • Replacement radiators;
  • Additional radiators;
  • Replacement boilers;
  • Additional storage heaters;
  • Central heating programmers and thermostats;
  • Thermostatic radiator valves;

Mole Valley has decided to target people living in rural areas. Conservative Councillor, David Walker, Portfolio Holder for Housing said:-

"Mole Valley has a record of success, when it comes to finding practical ways of caring for people. We want to ensure that money goes to those in particular need. Applicants in every part of the community are of course already able to take advantage of existing assistance schemes for these purposes, but we are adding this extra help in a targeted effort to increase take-up in the rural areas. I urge all qualifying residents to make use of these significant benefits."
