CONSERVATIVE CONTROL SETS THE WAY FORWARD FOR MOLE VALLEY

Since taking control in May 2005, the Conservatives in Mole Valley have:-

Recycling Mole Valley has one of the best records for recycling in the country. We have doubled the volume of waste we recycle by changing the way that household rubbish is collected. We will continue to work in partnership with the community and Surrey County Council to reduce waste and dispose of what’s left in a sustainable manner.

Green Belt - we fought Government proposals to swamp the Green Belt with housing. We believe in working with rural communities to produce parish plans with sites for affordable housing. We also use development control to make the best use of available sites.

The Countryside - we have transferred management of some of our open spaces to Surrey Wildlife Trust to improve conservation and save money. We also support the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership

Resources - we have made savings at Mole Valley, in areas such as insurance, banking, advertising and we are also reviewing the cost of back office functions. We obtained business rate refunds on some of our properties and reduced costs by joint working with other councils. We also exceeded government development control targets to obtain large grants and earned "e-government" grants for reaching targets for electronic delivery of services. Mole Valley provided the sixth most efficient collection service for Council Tax and Business Rates in the whole country.
