Ex Mole Valley Council Leader appointed to Gatwick Committee
Ex Mole Valley Council Leader, Neil Maltby, has been elected as Vice Chairman of the Gatwick Airport Consultative Committee. Mr Maltby was re-appointed to the Committee as Mole Valley’s representative last May.
GATCOM is the body that talks regularly to airport operators about issues such as noise pollution and night flights. Mr Maltby has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Committee.
Charlwood Village lives constantly under the threat of Gatwick expansion. The village has fought for years against a second runway at Gatwick, supported by Mole Valley District Council. A recent White Paper from the government concluded that a 1979 planning agreement preventing the construction of a second runway, should continue to be honoured until 2019.
Councillor Don Webb, who also represents the council on GATCOM said:-
"I am delighted with Mr Maltby’s appointment to this committee. He has long experience of the problems that the airport has caused here in Charlwood. I have no doubt that he will continue to monitor the situation, and ensure that we know what lies ahead."
