Councillor Jean Pearson
Capel, Leigh and Newdigate
Jean was elected as Conservative Councillor in 1999. She
was educated at Mary Datchelor School and Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts,
both in Camberwell, London. She qualified to the teaching profession in 1958,
leaving active teaching in 1985, having attained the position of Senior Teacher
to a large girls’ school in Carshalton, Surrey. She continued to maintain links
with education, becoming In-Service Training Co-ordinator for teachers to 1993,
and she was a Consultant to Education as Education Adviser, but is now retired.
Jean has lived in Brockham, Dorking and now Capel since 1971. She has been a
member of Capel Parish Council since 1996 and became a Freeman of the City of
London in 1997. Jean's activities include being a member of the Ancient Order of
Foresters Friendly Society becoming its national president in 1995, past member
of Reigate Priory Bowman Archery Club and Capel Camera Club. Her hobbies include
gardening, needlework, embroidery and painting.
Jean is the Leader of the Conservative Group of Mole Valley Councillors and Leader of Mole Valley Council. She is also the Portfolio Holder for Strategy & Policy Co-ordination/Environment & Sustainability.
