Police propose "No Cold Calling Zones" in Mole Valley

Mole Valley Police have put out a warning to Mole Valley residents this summer. The police say that the opportunity for crime increases with warmer weather, as people leave doors and windows open. Garden tools are also vulnerable, and the police are telling residents to make sure their garden sheds are secure.

Police also warn against distraction burglary and doorstep related crime in Mole Valley. Together with Surrey Trading Standards they are considering introducing a "No Cold Calling Zone in the Bookham/Fetcham/Ashtead area.

Apparently these zones have led to crime reduction in Guildford, Maybury and Horley, by raising residents’ awareness and giving them confidence when dealing with unwanted callers.

The zones will have "No Cold Calling Zone" road signs erected at various entry points. In addition, residents will receive a "No Cold Calling Household Pack" which will include a door sticker.

More information on the zones can be found on www.surreycc.gov.uk/tradingstandards.

Police are also asking for residents to give their views on the zones.

Councillor David Sharland (Leatherhead South), Portfolio Holder for Health Safety and Wellbeing said:-

""I welcome this new No Cold Calling Zone initiative. We need to protect the elderly and vulnerable in our community, by giving them every support. Distraction burglars and doorstep fraudsters are a menace. We should make it as difficult as possible for them to operate.  The initiative will make these areas of Mole Valley safer places."
